The California Prison Industry Authority employs Heavy Truck Drivers within our Warehouse and On-Time Delivery. Heavy Truck Drivers help ensure material, supplies, and equipment are loaded and unloaded safely. In addition to this, they also help make sure all trucks are being serviced and checked at regular intervals, while also changing tires and reporting defects to supervisors. These positions do follow the California Standard hiring process with a few additional steps, which have been listed down below. It is also important to know that if you aren’t already, you will need to be registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Step1. Position posts to CalCareers and candidates are able to submit applications during this period. Step2. Hiring Manager will screen and select candidates for interviews. Step3. Once candidate is selected and approved, they will be given a packet of information to fill out. Step4. Once approved, Hiring Manager sends candidate to LiveScan, TB test, and Medical Exam. Step5. Candidate then takes packet to  register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Step6. Driving record authorization sent to candidate for approval. Step7. CALPIA sends report to Clearinghouse to obtain driving record. Step8. Candidate approves CALPIA to run the driving record report. Step9. Pre-emloyment drug test will be issued. Step10. Once drug test is completed, hiring manager will reach out to set start date.
